Getting Started Guide

RabbitStats

Signing up for a RabbitStats account is easy! Here's how you do it!

Short Version

For some folks, this is all you'll need to know:

  1. Create an account on the website
  2. Get the collector script
  3. Create an in-world collector object
  4. Enjoy watching your data get collected

The rest of this document will walk you though each of the steps one by one.

Create an Account on the Website

Since RabbitStats is a web application, you need an account on our website in order to begin. Signing up for one is easy and doesn't take a lot of time or information.

Go to:

http://www.rabbitstats.com/signup/

Create a Customer Account

To begin the signup process, you need to create an account for your organization.

For "Organization Name" list the name of your company or group. ("Prim Wholesalers" is an example.)

For "Domain Name" list a one-word short name that you wish to use to identify yourself to the system. ("primwholesale" would be a good choice.)

The name you list here is how you will log into the system - the domain name is the first part of the URL. For example, if your domain name was "primwholesale", you would go to:

http://primwholesale.rabbitstats.com

...to log into the website.

Fill out the Organization Name and the Domain Name and hit the "Go to Step Two" button.

Create a User Account

Now that you have a customer account, you'll need to create a username and password to log into the system with. You can have as many logins to the website as you need, and the privileges can vary per account - each account can also set their own time zone so that the charts and numbers appear in their own local time zone!

On the next screen, a username, full name, password and email address are required. There is some optional information you can fill in also if you wish, but none of it is needed.

Read the RabbitStats terms of service. You must agree with the terms of service in order to use RabbitStats.

Fill in all of the information and hit "Go to Step Three".

Confirm Your Email Address

Once you've completed step two, you should receive an email with a code in it. That email will also contain a link to a page that will allow you to confirm that your email address is correct. Go check your mail, and follow the link.

When you finish this step, you're almost done!

Create Your First Collector

Create a new Collector on the RabbitStats Website

Now that your email address has been confirmed you can log into the RabbitStats web site and be able to create a new collector.

To do this, log in to the RabbitStats website and select "Edit Collectors and Users" from the menu bar and then elect select "Add a new collector..." at the bottom of the screen.

The only information you need to supply in order to create a new collector is a password. This password is used to keep someone else from guessing your collector's key and uploading incorrect information. This password is stored and is shown in plain text - don't reuse an important password from somewhere else!

Type in the password you wish to use and hit "Create New Collector". You will be returned back the account details screen.

In the account details screen you should see that there's a new row in the table with the password you just assigned, along with a key that looks something like "f74d0bda-d94b-4142-a10a-7a9e3c68f138". You will need to know this key, your password and your account domain name (ie, "primwholesale") to set up the collector.

Get the Collector Script

Now it's time to go in-world! Log into the Second Life virtual world if you haven't already.

If you don't already have a copy of the collector script, head over to our main in-world storefront and pick up a copy of it. Our main store is located at:

Create an In-World Collector

You can make any prim into a collector. We've found that phantom prims with an invisible texture work really well, but any prim will work. Create a prim, and drop the collector script into it.

The prim will report "Server rejected our register attempt: Customer 'test' not found!" This is normal! It told you that because it has not yet been configured - it'll go away once you've configured it.

To configure the collector, open up the collector script in the prim's inventory and look for a section that looks like this:

Script Editor Example

It's located near the very top of the script, under the copyright notices.

There are five items in this script you need to edit:

By default Rabbit Glen Software, LLC will receive any warnings and notices from your collectors. (Such as the server being unreachable, etc.) If you'd rather see these notices yourself, change the "monitoringAddress" to the email address of your choosing.

Change the script to match your information, make sure the "Mono" box has been checked, and then hit "Save". The script editor should tell you "Compile successful!". If you've configured the collector correctly, it should tell you "Server accepted our registration, starting to collect data...".

You're Done!

That's it! The collector should be up and running!

Wait five minutes or so and log back into the RabbitStats website to see first few graphs that have been generated for you!

You might want to join our in-world group called "RabbitStats" to be informed of updates as they occur.
